Do you only work with children?

I have experience working with clients throughout the lifespan. My specialty and passion are children, adolescents, and those who are young at heart.

Do you only work with parents?

Not at all. Toileting is so universal, and I often work with school staff, nannies, and other caregivers – whomever is involved in the toileting journey! This is, of course, always done in conjunction with the parent or guardian.

Where do you work?

I offer a mobile service in Miami, Florida and Perth, Western Australia – which means I come to you!

I often work in a client's home, school, or in the community. Shopping center "toilet tours", meeting at the local library, park, or pool to check out the toilets there (after having some fun, regulating movement) are other places I have had sessions with clients. A parent guardian or other responsible adult will need to be present for all sessions, unless otherwise discussed.

I offer video consultation to clients worldwide.

Do you only work with children with a diagnosis?

Quite the opposite! Toileting can be challenging for any child, and I can offer advice and support to a wide range of clients.

Are your services covered by Australian National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)?

Yes, in most cases. For these services please visit my Australian site, continencehub.com

Do you accept private health insurance?

I'm not able to directly invoice private heath insurance. Clients are responsible for payment of all service fees.

However you may be able to make a claim on your own, particularly if you have a referral from a physician or allied health professional. Please discuss this with your insurance provider.

Please note, I am not registered as an occupational therapist in the USA or anywhere outside of Australia at this time.

Is every child’s plan the same?

Absolutely not. We begin with a thorough conversation about your child, your situation, and your goals. We will then create a plan that's specific to you and your family's needs.

We have many different tools and strategies at our disposal, and part of my job is to continually assess which ones are best for your family.

How long will it take?

It may not be a satisfying answer, but the truth is that everybody's toileting journey is different.

How long it takes to achieve toileting mastery will depend on many factors. I will always be up-front about the rate of progress that you can expect, and will never continue services when they are no longer needed, or if I think a different specialist should take over. I often say "the happiest day in a family's life is when they no longer need me!"

Should I start by contacting you, or my family doctor?

Although you're welcome to begin the process with your doctor, it's not required. No referral is necessary to access my services.

If, after a thorough assessment, I believe you need to speak to your doctor about a specific medical test or treatment, I can support you to request these through your doctor. I can also recommend other specialists who may be able to assist.

If you have an urgent medical concern, you should see your doctor or seek assistance at an urgent care or hospital emergency department. My service does not replace medical intervention where it is required.

Do you only help with toileting, or can you help with developing other skills?

Working as an occupational therapist for over 12 years, I have  experience in many different areas including self care, self regulation, skills required to participate in school or the workplace, equipment prescription, and ergonomics.

My passion, however, is toileting, continence, and all things bladder and bowel. Learning toileting skills can often involve improving posture, strength, family routines, diet, fluid intake, self/co-regulation, sourcing appropriate equipment, and a whole lot more! This might mean we need to work on other skills before getting to the toilet.

If you need help finding a professional who can help in other areas, I would be very happy to make a recommendation.
